Poem: Get your knee off our necks!
There is a correlation between slavery and racism and I thought that the Rev Al Sharpton Eulogy at the George Flyod’s commemoration of death was really inspiring. I wrote a poem to sum up how I felt about it.
We always felt your knee on our necks, tried to tell you so many time, but you never listened and respected us. We have enough of your racists comments and excuses.
· You had your knee on our necks 401 years ago (1619 exactly) when you came to our continent to kidnap our ancestors as slaves.
· You have your knee on our necks when you traded our ancestors and forced them into slavery and raped our women.
· You had your knee on our necks when you forced us in the American colonies and exploited us to work as indentured servants and labour in the production of crops such as tobacco and cotton.
· You had your knee on our necks when you never wanted to listen or talk about the history of slavery and the atrocities made towards Africans.
· You had your knee our my necks when you criminalised our creative and intelligent men and women, jailed them and taken their liberty.
· You had your knee on our necks when you have never invested in our communities and segregated us.
· You had your knee on our necks when you never eradicated poverty and perpetuated institutional racism.
· You had your knee on our necks when you have forgotten our communities and underfunded them.
· You had your knee on our necks when you have not invested in girls education and never funded female genital mutilation.
· You had your knee on our necks when you never funded our creative industries and artists.
· You had your knee on our necks when you criminalised our black men and made their children fatherless.
· You had your knee on our necks when you never recognised our LGBT and disable community. You never respected our diversity.
· You had your knee on our necks when you built prison industrial complexes to incarcerate our men and women to make a profit for decades. Nearly 3 Million in the USA.
· You had your knee on your necks when you never invested in our health systems. This had created millions of deaths especially during #Covid19
· You had your knee on our necks when our people never had nutritional education; this has caused obesity, high blood pressure and other unnecessary illnesses in our black communities.
· You had your knee on our necks when you invented never-ending wars, stole our natural resources and our beautiful lands in Africa. Build your hotels and companies.
· You had your knee on our necks when you never respected our Black women and men seating on your boards, you dismissed their voices and had them for your ridiculous diversity quotas.
· You had your knee on our necks when you have never accepted that when black lives matter everybody’s life matters.
